I have just spent a thousand dollars on, essentially, a bed. (bed/mattress/pillows/quilt/etc)
Part of me is thinking that it seems too much for what it is.. and the other part of me is really looking forward to sleeping on a decent bed for a change! :)

Nah - a decent bed is a prize above rubies.

Even if you only use it for sleeping in...

No such thing as too much money on a bed. Enjoy it!

a good quality bed and a comfortable couch are really investments... you will never ever regret it...probably the 2 most important things in a house

I agree with all them.

Plus, it's only about 400 quid, innit ;)

That is a perfectly reasonable amount of money to spend on a bed.

The last bed I bought was 800 quid, and I consider it a bargain, as it's the most comfortable bed I'd ever slept in (although there are a couple of hotel beds which have come vaguely close).

What he said. Even down to the price of the bed.

Please don't ruin that fancy bed with cheap linen!

Scarily, the sort of beds you get for a grand aren't as fancy as I would have thought. It's decent, but the actually-fancy ones were $2000-3000!
I think I've bought decent linen for it *shrug* I'll find out I guess. It wasn't cheap, anyway.

there's actually one problem with a good bed: they're hard to get out of in the morning. :)

That's really not very much for a bed amd mattress. Mine (which I'm waiting to have delivered right now) will be that if you included the cost of the mattress, which I already have. Except it pounds, not dollars. And it wasn't particularly expensive.

Yeah, this bed and mattress was certainly closer to the cheaper rather than expensive end of the scale..
The $200 mattresses were *horrible* (erm, kind of like the one I had in London) but the $400 ones are decent. You can spend LUDICROUS amounts of money on mattresses if you want to though - like $9000! I really couldn't tell much difference between $400-500 ones and $5000 though, so figured I'd save the money for now :)

The bed is nice.. solid and I like the wood and metal use, but also can be deconstructed to be moved without much hassle as well. I figure I can always upgrade that in a few years if I buy a place and thus don't expect to be moving for a while.

Am so looking forward to it though! I've been sleeping on spare beds, couches, sofa-beds, etc for six months!

Well my last mattress alone cost $1500, so you got a good deal!

Did you end up gong to fantastic Furniture and that area at Northland?

Agreed. A decent bed is worth it. Slept recently on a friend's new mattress that cost £550 and was out like a light for 9 hours straight. Hope you get the same experience with yours ; )

Go on, get a latex mattress :p
I agree with the populace, you can't spend enough on the damn things. How much of your life do you spend in it?

Does your new bed help with insomnia?
