in memory of Robert Anton Wilson
Mar. 19th, 2007 01:01 amThe Robert Anton Wilson memorial was nicely done - Coldcut+Mixmaster Morris provided background music to recorded material of R.A.W. in-between tributes given by Ken Campbell, Bill Drummond, and Alan Moore.
Bill's piece seemed to be spoken off the top of his head, and mainly talked about how much Illuminatus! had influenced him - and asked for suggestions for how best to spend £750 (his fee) in a way that Robert would approve of.
Ken spoke several times, mainly of his memories of Robert from the late 70s.
Alan Moore did two readings only, and said nothing else. First reading was from "Masks of the Illuminatus", a frenzied description of four characters + Aleister Crowley on acid in a hotel room. Second reading was his own prose, a chaotic stream of conciousness in tribute and memory.
I had a brief chat with Bill Drummond afterwards. Nice to finally meet the guy who runs my favourite pub :)
(As an aside - I note that Wikipedia's references to the stage production of Illuminatus! frequently disagree on the length; 8.5, 10 and 12 hours being the differing values I've seen so far.)
