So a cool change came into Melbourne recently, and this weekend it's been raining (drizzling) a fair bit.
And for no apparent reason, the computer that handles my email, websites, etc has just decided that life is no-longer worth living, and is refusing to play. (Apps segfault and the kernel panics, within a few minutes of booting it up). THis was.. rather sudden. And there's been nothing to cause it - no extreme heat, no sudden knocks, no hardware or software changes.. I literally hadn't touched it for two weeks prior to it dying last night.

This is very irritating.

And the upshot of this, is my email will be out of action until I fix it - so use my gmail address instead please.

[Edit: Bizarrely, memtest86 has by now almost run through an entire test pass without any failures.. removing my first suspect, ie. bad ram. Next guess - CPU??]

Hi,
Would anyone like any of this stuff? It's taking up space in my house.
If no-one wants 'em for FREE, I'll put 'em up on ebay for 0.99. But I'd prefer not to waste that amount of time dealing with ebayers. You have to arrange collection yourself, I can't be bothered spending hours standing in post office queues.

  • Computer - contains 3xIntel Xeon 450MHz CPUs (can take up to 4), 3x 9.1Gb SCSI drives (striped) (can take up to 7). Comes with Linux pre-installed, and works for web browsing or video playback or just general server stuff. (eg. Internet firewall/gateway, file serving, etc - could combine with more free harddrives listed below)

  • 10/100 MBit ethernet switch

  • HP Colour laser printer. (CYMK - 4 toner cartridges). Needs more yellow toner.

  • Epson C86 colour inkjet printer. (CMYK - 4 ink cartridges). Needs more cyan, magenta, and yellow ink.

  • Assorted ISA, PCI, and AGP cards - ie. modems, 10/100 ethernet adaptors, graphics cards, etc.

  • Various computer cables. (eg. power leads, VGA, USB, firewire, IDE, ATA, SCSI, etc.)

  • Misc x86 computer parts - Heatsinks, fans, etc.

  • A couple of hard drives (think they're like 20/30 GB or so, but working)

  • Assorted monitors (a variety between 15 and 19 inches)

  • 20+ MiniDiscs (some blank, some with recorded music, but re-writeable)

(PS. You're welcome to forward this on)
