Visited my great-aunt in Finchley after work, had dinner, chatted about the usual bits and pieces. I also had an ulterior motive.. She has an (ancient) slide projector, and i was given two rolls of slide film for my birthday by someone else, that i'd like to play with.
After dinner we located the slide projector, and checked it still worked - the bulb was still good too.
I had mentioned how I'd been totally failing to buy a tripod from Jessops after three attempts were stymied by hopeless customer service (a rant i managed not to bore you with on LJ). My great aunt tells me that when i was really little and visited her with my parents, I had played with some old camera gear that was my great-aunt's father's. We hunt thru the loft and find two antique tripods (both broken, probably by a twenty year younger version of me), a pre-war German light meter (still working!) and some misc bits and pieces.
Nice to see things kind of come full-circle like that :)
I also had a brief look at some slides Renate has, while I was testing the projector. Quite good colour shots taken from the tops of mountain's she had climbed, in the 60s. When i'm ancient, i'd like to be able to point and say "i was there" for so many places too.
