So, Johannesburg isn't *all* bad, of course!
For instance, popcorn at the cinemas comes un-flavoured, and you then shacke whichever flavour powder you prefer over the top. An interesting innovation over the simple choice of salt or sweet that I've seen elsewhere.
(Of course, it's still bad no matter which flavour, some things never change)
Speaking of cinemas, I was coerced into seeing Spiderman 3 with Liz and some of her friends. Now, keeping in mind that I (intentionally) didn't watch Spiderman 1 or 2, know that I was unprepared for the apallingness of the movie. We weren't the only group in the cinema to burst out laughing at the wooden acting or terrible script moments.

On a brighter note - I took Liz to her firstsecond "rave", a launch party put on by Teknotribe. It was at a venue called Loaded, which appears to just be the same venue as the club called Carfax, only limited to a subsection of rooms. It was still large, with two main dance areas, bar area, unisex toilet faculties, and a second floor that overlooked the main room.
It was a techno and psytrance night, and although the psytrance was decent, we spent most of our time in the techno area. Good music, DJs who were having fun too, and a really good crowd were present. Lots of friendly people, no bad attitudes.. quite a range of people-types, too - there were some of your classic psytrancers, some typical technoheads, but also goths, ravers, people who looked like they should have been at a trendy nightclub, people who looked like they hadn't bothered to change at all, a couple of punks, a metalhead with some corpse-paint, and more. All friendly and into it.

I had a serious deficit of dancing to work off, and bounced around for a long time.

There's an outdoor event miles away later this month that could be good, although it must be rather cold, so I think they're a bit game!

We dropped into a bar/club called Trance Sky in Melville a while back too, which I really liked at first. Nice decor and atmosphere, although oddly it didn't have a dance floor. Later on it swapped music styles rapidly into rap and hiphop and filled up to an uncomfortable level. Staff shifted a couple of tables to make room for people dancing, but I didn't like it any more at that point. Still, nice place, and I'd go there again if I could check that they'd keep playing electronica, rather than switching to hiphop! (Maybe that was just that night..) You should check it out if you visit Joburg.
