OK, so the BT guy came around on Wednesday morning, and fixed the phoneline up. Bulldog DSL have been contacted and should be transferring the DSL to the new number soonish, for a bit of a hefty fee of course. The house is wired up with ethernet and wireless. The server room has its own ethernet switch, UPS and KVM switch, and then there's a 5-port switch inbetween the top two floors to service the bedrooms and lounge. Net access is currently via a soup can gaffertaped to my window, but we'll be switching back to 2 Mbit DSL once the provider gets their arse into gear. (I already have a full QoS traffic shaping system installed on the linux box with the ADSL card.)
The cleaners arrived at 8am on the dot, and spent the entire day cleaning the house, at the expense of the landlord. It is now shiny and not grotty, and visitors are welcome. I need more furniture though, so a visit to Argos or Ikea is coming up, I can tell.
Our new house is nice. I like it. It's not quite as gazebo-tastic as Toms, nor as gothtastic as St Perversia. However, for the first time in a long time, I'm once again able to have enough rooms to seperate the PCs into their own room, have a lounge without anyone living in it, and a kitchen big enough to accommodate a decent number of people without being cramped. We also have a garden with a slide, which will probably be fun come summer. (The garden that is, not the slide. Unless you're eight years old.)
If anyone in London enjoys gardening, and wants to adopt ours, you'd be welcome to come around and play with it. If anyone can reccommend some sort of low-maintenance pretty things we can plant in it, I might grab some sometime. I don't know how long stuff takes to grow though? I mean, if I plant some vines under the trellises, will i see any effects before we (possibly) move out in a year? Hmm.
