The windows were all locked closed at the start of the summer heat, because office management claimed that opening them inhibited the efficiency of the (useless) aircon.
I think it's just fundamentally screwed.. It didn't work even when it was brand new, and judging by the design (air vents on floor, rather than ceiling, for instance) I don't know if it'll ever work..
We have aircon/heating just like that in our lecture room. When it's winter it decides to make the room alternately 15°C and 25°C because to the ultra sophisticated computer this is exactly identical to a mean of 20°C, and in summer we just turn it off and open the windows. At least half of the lecturers bring their own electric heater down from their office and turn the aircon off in winter too. This is exactly why we don't have air conditioning all over the place in the UK; we've found a better solution with central heating, double glazing and building things out of bricks with windows and doors in the right places to make a draught when it's hot.
I'll back you up here. When the air-con is working - or should that be "working"? - it's like there are a handful of ants under the floor, farting up through the vents.
The floor vents are generally about 7" in diameter, and if you're lucky you'll be able to *see* one from your desk. If you bribed someone, it's under your desk.
This is the second summer where the chiller unit has broken - last year they had to ship in the parts from somewhere bizarre, and far away [i.e. different country]. By the time the parts had arrived, it was winter anyway.
I could go on and on about the fantastic system we have at work, but I think it was best summed up earlier ....
