London: 12 year old girl arrested for drunk-driving; then sentenced to a two year driving ban.
That's a bright judge they've got there.. What's the minimum age to drive here, sixteen?

More interesting is this one - Man saved by beer (from being buried alive
You have to read about how he used the beer to escape..

Edit: Snopes says the one about the beer is probably false.

Still haven't heard anything at all out of our landlord. I think I'm going to have to call him myself and find out what he's planning if I still haven't heard anything by the end of the week.

The bike is running fine still. One upshot of the mechanics rebuilding the carbies five times over (whilst trying to fix the problem) is that they now seem to be nicely cleaned and tuned, and the bike runs better than it did before.

The place that sold me the disc lock that just wouldn't fit on any part of the bike took it back and returned my money. I was happy to try and exchange it for a different one, but almost all the other locks were the tubular sort that we've recently discussed; of the others, I thought they were far too overpriced.
I ended up mail-ordering an "Oxford Ultimate" off the web for 13 pounds instead; it should fit, and it's reasonably secure. Just a pity that it'll probably live up to my really poor expectations of quality that I associate with the Oxford brand of locks. (Some of their other products are fine; their website maintainer, however, should be hung, drawn, and quartered.)

Inbetween short-term chaos and uncertainty, there's time to be feeling confused due to another issue and I seem to be emotionally swinging between numb, introspective, and depressed, and back again. Roll on the weekend already.. please?
