A small piece of the apocalypse
Jun. 21st, 2004 11:21 amI've been meaning to mention this to
marnameow for a little while..
I have my own little piece of radioactivity - I ordered a Traser Glowring off the 'net.
These little things have a small amount of radioactive tritium gas, which reacts with the coating of the chamber it is in, to glow... continually, for about ten years.
Neat, althought I'm not sure i actually want to use it as a keyring long-term, given the proximity of my keys to the part of the body that stores my genes for possible future reproduction.
I'm not sure if the device actually emits much radiation though.. I believe the emitted radiation reacts with the coating to cause the glowing, thus converting some, or hopefully all, of the radiation to light.
So, anyone have a geiger counter to check? ;)
