Well, my birthday party last night was good.
Nice turnout of nice people, including some i don't get to see enough of, and lots of cards and stuff, which was a pleasant surprise.
Lots of people got lost on the way, but all managed to find their way here in the end. I didn't take many photos myself, but I saw a few other people taking lots, so no doubt they'll appear somewhere.

Still slightly scattered today, but generally pretty good. I seem to have avoided having a hangover or a comedown, which surprises me. The house wasn't really all that trashed either - some swift cleaning, and now you'd hardly know there was a huge load of people here before.

Thanks for coming everyone, and thanks for taking care of the place, like the decent people you are :)

The hot water died again yesterday, though. Oh well, not much longer til i move.
Debating whether to go out for a couple of pints this evening somewhere.. Anyone going to the pub tonight?

Noticed something odd this evening.
I had the Icom on, listening to some frequencies I have listened to previously, and are usually very clear. However there was a constant high level of interference now - just white noise, enough that i had to turn the squelch up quite high.

I checked the aerial, and noticed that my phone line was running across the antenna feed cable at one point. The scanner antenna i'm using currently has ludicrously thin coax, so I wondered if the phone line was causing a problem, and shifted it. The interference disappeared immediately.

Having found the source of the problem, I'm still wondering about why it was causing it. I have ADSL running to line, but there is a filter in place at the phone plug in the wall, so i wouldn't have thought it'd be sending RF further down the extension line to my phone - which was on the hook, and so in theory open circuit.
I know there's also carrier power on the phone, 48 volts in fact, but for some reason I am thinking that it's DC power and thus shouldn't cause interference. (Can't find a quick answer to AC or DC via Google.)

I'm just wondering if anyone else knows what might have caused the phone extension cable to cause such interference?
(Almost certainly made worse by the fact that the antenna's cable is useless.)

Think i'll wait till the week when i'm less sketchy before constructing the decent antenna.
