When I looked at the weather forecast for Brighton this morning, it said rain, rain, overcast, and more rain.
What it *actually* turned out to be was sun, sun, more sun, and more sun. Lovely weather, and I had a great time down there with
lusciousa,
mouseboks,
gothbabe,
thamshere, and
blue_candy &
scyph managed to get down as well later. Yay! :D
Excellent day, nice food & drink & sun & icecream & strange pebblely beaches. Crashing out into bed now. Photos later.
Sunday was nice too.. Caught up with a bunch of people I'd never met before, who turned out to be mainly ex-pat Brisbanites. Started out as a veggie BBQ; then trips to the shop were made, more people arrived, and it turned into a pleasant impromptu party in the evening. Was strange to be surrounded by so many familiar accents though.. (I haven't heard that dialect of qld for a while here. I'm surprised some people still had them after being here for 3/4/5 years.)
Saw a nasty motorcycle accident on the way home.. As far as I could tell, a late-model BMW ran thru a just-turned-red light at the Canonbury/Essex Rd intersection, and totalled a motorcyclist who was just taking off from his just-turned-green lights. I think it was the same guy who had overtaken the bus at the previous set of lights (Islington High st / Essex Rd), too. He had been overtaking cars down Essex Rd at well over 30mph, and I guess he launched it from the set of lights where he got hit, the moment they turned green. Still, he (or she?) didn't really deserve to get smashed by a speeding BMW, all the same.
This is why you always look both ways before taking off at the lights, even if the idiots in the cars behind you are reving the engine to go.
